Glossary Term

Foil - Prior to 1991, metallic foil on baseball cards was rare and limited to special edition cards.  In 1991, Topps issued the first Stadium Club set which featured gold foil in each card.  Metallic foil became very common on cards produced in the 1990s and continues to be widely used. Over the years cards have been produced with many different colored foils.  I've seen silver, copper, green, red, and blu to name a few.  I could not find a reference on this process is done and I suspect that the foils do not actually contain gold or silver or other precious metals.

It is a glossary of terms used in the descriptions of the cards I've listed. I claim no real authority beyond having over 23 years of card collecting history. Many of the terms are used in the hobby but most of the definitions here were made up by me. If I use a definition from elsewhere, I'll give credit where credit is due.

The glossary will grow as needed to cover new terms. If you've got any suggestions (or corrections) please leave a comment.
